Ultraman (ウ ル ト ラ マ ン Urutoraman) is a series of Tsushaya Productions tokusatsu productions featuring superhero figures named Ultraman. This series is the second series in the Ultra Series after the Tokusatsu Ultra Q series but became the first series to show Ultraman. Comprising 39 episodes in total, the series was first shown on the TBS television network, Japan from July 17, 1966, to April 9, 1967. Ultraman was created by Eiji Tsuburaya from Tsuburaya Productions, a pioneer of special effects.
This series is the beginning of Tsuburaya’s success, which continues to this day. The authenticity of the Ultraman story is proven by the success of Ultraman as a pop culture phenomenon in Japan until now. At that time in the United States was popular the story of superheroes from Marvel and DC comics, but the story of super-sized giant heroes had never made it.
Ultraman is the main concept of this series. Although most television series in Japan aired for a full year, the series was stopped in episode 39. The Tsuburaya production team claimed to be exhausted in this project. But the success of Ultraman made Tsuburaya make a sequel 6 months later under the title Ultraseven. Ultraman’s popularity makes this series continue to be developed. Tsuburaya added the word Original (初 代 ウ ル ト マ ン od, Shodai Urutoraman) behind the title of this series to distinguish it from the following series.

Ultraman is very powerful and has many moves. But like most other superheroes who have weaknesses (Superman is weak against krypton stones), Ultraman is weak against the Earth’s atmosphere. Earth’s atmosphere reduces the sun’s energy which is the source of its power and is not free like when in space that is empty of air. The structure of the earth’s air is also different from the original planet. Based on these reasons, Ultraman can only fight in a giant form for only 3 minutes.
In his fight to protect the earth, Ultraman was finally defeated by an extraterrestrial named Zetton. Zetton absorbed Ultraman’s attack and turned it into a fireball to attack Ultraman. The fireball Zetton fired made the color timer on Ultraman’s chest crumble. Although Zetton was finally defeated by the SSIT team, Ultraman seemed beyond help.

Suddenly, Zoffy appeared to help. Zoffy explained to Ultraman that to repair a damaged color timer, Ultraman had to undergo treatment on his home planet. Ultraman initially refused because if he separated from Hayata, Hayata would die. In the end, Zoffy separated Ultraman from Hayata, and gave enough power to Hayata to survive for a while until Ultraman returned to earth. The series ends without ever knowing whether Hayata is reuniting with Ultraman or not.
